Dr. Winitana Mekonnen is a 2017, Addis Ababa University, College of Health Science graduate with a doctorate in physiotherapy at the top of her graduating class with very great distinction. She completed her undergraduate study at 2007 from University of Gondar with Bachelor Science degree (BSc) in physiotherapy. She completed a total of 548 hours of advanced continuing professional education with certificate on topics of musculoskeletal , neurology , pediatrics, clubfoot, neuromuscular and orthopedics clinical integration ,clinical decision making, therapeutic exercise, cardiopulmonary, and Integumentary provided by international instructors across the world. Dr. Winitana is an active board member of Ethiopia Physiotherapy Association (EPTA) and severing as research and training officer. She has and continues to serve as clinical instructor and mentor to new graduates and physiotherapy students from national and international universities at Tikur Anbessa specialized referral hospital and Paragon physiotherapy and Sports Medicine specialized clinics where she also serves as clinical director.
Dr. Winitana is committed to improving the profession of physiotherapy in Ethiopia and has been involved in developing national rehabilitation guidelines, national standard guidelines for physiotherapy service, Ethiopia physiotherapy educational standard, review and developed modular harmonized physiotherapy BSs curriculum and the scope physiotherapy practice in collaboration with Ethiopia Food, Medicine, Health Services Administration and Control Agency (FMHACA) and Ethiopia ministry of health (MOH). She is board licensed by the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health.
Dr. Winitana has 13 years of extensive clinical expertise in diagnosis, treatment and progression of orthopedics, neurologic, sport injuries, and cardiopulmonary, geriatric, vestibular, and pediatric conditions of all kind.
Dr. Winitana Works with Parkinson’s patient support organization of Ethiopia to provide consultation and training for patients as well as care givers and she is also a medical member of Ethiopia Olympic Committee for evaluating, treating and training athletes.
Dr. Winitana has a strong interested in rehabilitation of various sport injuries to help athletes return back to sport and preventing injuries before they happen. She is currently studying in a two years specialty program in Sports Physiotherapy provided by International Olympic committee (IOC).
